At TMJP, learning and development went beyond building technical skills. In September, TMJP family members took part in two interactive Learning & Development sessions designed to strengthen two essential areas of professional life: effective communication and workplace well-being.
Hosted by our HR Associate and registered psychometrician, Ms. Kate, the sessions encouraged participants to reflect on their own experiences, share insights, and discover practical strategies they could apply in their daily work.
The first session, “Communicate to Lead: Mastering Influence and Connection,” took place on September 11. It highlighted a reality many professionals know well: speaking in front of an audience can feel daunting—even for those who are usually confident communicators.
The second session, “Healthy Mind, Productive Work: Strategies for Managing Stress,” followed on September 18. This discussion explored the powerful link between mental well‑being and productivity—an everyday challenge that’s often underestimated but deeply impactful.
Ms. Kate discussed how anxiety around public speaking was common and helped participants understand some of the reasons people experienced nervousness when speaking before others. Rather than viewing this anxiety as something that had to completely disappear, the session reassured TMJP professionals that it’s a common phenomenon and gave them tips to manage it.
The discussion also explored how they can get through speech anxiety in various audiences and situations. Participants learned practical tips for communicating in different workplace situations, from preparing budget reports for executives to presenting products and ideas to customers.
These situations required more than simply delivering information. Professionals needed to understand their audience, organize their message clearly, communicate with confidence, and create a connection with the people listening.
Through the interactive activities and discussions, participants had opportunities to connect the tips they learned to their tasks at work. The session reinforced the idea that communication was not only about speaking—it was also about understanding, connecting, and influencing others effectively.
In the second session, “Healthy Mind, Productive Work: Strategies for Managing Stress,” Ms. Kate guided participants through a discussion about stress, including what could trigger it and how it could affect the way people work. Stress could influence concentration, creativity, decision-making, and overall efficiency, making it an important consideration for both individual professionals and organizations.
The session also introduced practical approaches to managing stress in the workplace. Topics included time and task management, lifestyle habits, and the role of workplace culture in supporting a healthier working environment.
Rather than treating stress management as a single solution, the discussion emphasized the importance of developing sustainable habits and recognizing the different factors that could affect a person’s well-being and productivity.
A key part of both sessions was their interactive approach. Instead of simply listening to a presentation, TMJP family members were encouraged to participate in discussions and activities, making the learning experience more engaging and relatable.
This approach allowed participants to connect the topics to their own workplace experiences and consider how the lessons could be applied in their day-to-day responsibilities.
The two sessions also reflected an important principle of professional development: effective performance was not built solely on technical expertise. The ability to communicate with confidence, manage workplace stress, maintain focus, and build positive connections with others was equally valuable.
The September Learning & Development sessions provided TMJP professionals with practical insights that extended beyond the training room. “Communicate to Lead: Mastering Influence and Connection” encouraged participants to become more confident and intentional communicators, while “Healthy Mind, Productive Work: Strategies for Managing Stress” highlighted the connection between well-being and productive work.
Through initiatives like these, TMJP continued to support the growth of its people—not only as professionals, but also as individuals who contributed to a healthier, more connected, and more effective workplace.
For TMJP, learning remained a continuous journey. Every new insight, conversation, and experience became another opportunity to grow together.
